Whoopie!

I finally got a laptop computer! Hurray for me, and I'd like to add that's it's nice to finally join the 20th century. Oh wait . . . crap! I'm still behind. At any rate, I write to you tonight from my handy dandy new Dell laptop. Of course, as I write this I'm thinking how much faster it would be to type it out on my old computer. (It's gonna take a while to get used to this new keyboard thingy.) Now, laptops have that neat little mouse pad thing on them. That's useless, well, at least to me it is. I can't use that thing to save my life. It's a good thing I bought myself a new wireless mouse, too. To complete my little technological ensemble, I also bought myself a laptop bag. It's soooo precious. (Wow! How preteen cheerleader did that sound?) Anyway, I love the bag with all its pockets and its pastel rainbow stripes on the inside. I really wish I had a job that I had to carry my laptop around so that I could show of the bag.

As I was playing my new video game on my new laptop this afternoon, I wondered if this little portable doodad would make it eaier to write. Well, I'm not sure yet. First of all there's the whole keyboard thing that I already mentioned. (It's taken me 10 minutes to type out everything, so far. I have to keep backing up and erasing my typos!) Next, at least temporarily I'm going to be spending all my time getting used to the new OS. I feel all disorientated coming from Windows XP to the new Vista. Plus, I have to get all my bookmarks and accounts shifted from the desktop. Finally, well, as this afternoon pointed out, I might have some diffculty not playing video games instead of writing. I guess some things never change.

For those of you who care, I've decided to dump my thesis. I got stuck, as many of you know, and I couldn't figure out what to do. I talked with my advisor, and we both agreed that I may have been a little too passionate about proving the literary worthiness of Stephen King, and it's got me all brain-tied. So, I've decided to switch to another author--one I like, but who won't cause me to become obsessive/compulsive in trying to make everyone believe as I do about him and the work. I've changed to an independant study of Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. It's going well, in fact, I'm just about done. I think that two to three weeks will do it.

Well, I had better take off now. I'm excited to keep playing with my new toy. And besides, I really need a cigarette.
